Journey to Dakar: Less than 48 hours
Dec 9, 2009
Think back to the time when you were a child. Remember the anticipation you experienced as Christmas grew near. Wondering what was wrapped inside the bright presents beneath the tree. You knew what you had asked for (no probably begged for). You wondered if Christmas morning would ever come. It seemed that the days just dragged by.
Well that is where i have been the past 2 days since I last wrote. Great anticipation of the trip to Africa. Wondering what it would be like. Will it be all that I hope it will be?
In less than 48 hours, I will be on a plane on my way to Africa. It is very hard to believe.
We did have a scare last night. Our leader had some difficulties come his way and we were not sure what would occur. The word went out by many directions to all the prayer warriors that could be reached by phone and of course on twitter and facebook. Those prayer warriors didnt disappoint as they joined in the many prayers for our leader and his family. Tonight we found out that things are better and he will probably be going with us. There is a back up just in case.
We met tonight at 630 pm for our last meeting prior to leaving on Friday. Our packed bags were stuffed with various items and one by one they were all weighed. We have to limit one bag to less than 50 lbs. Another bag will be filled with some food and supplies such as bandaids, neopsorin, alcohol and peroxide that we will need while in Africa. Then there will be the carry on bag. One of the five will be responsible for the money and another will be responsible for the all important bag of M and Ms. That has to go in our carry on bag so it does not melt. The problem is that it might just melt in our mouths before we get there. It will take 30 hrs to get to our destination. Those M and Ms already are tempting us and we aren't on the plane yet.
(It's a good thing that they don't have peanuts in them or they might have "melted" tonight and never made it to the flight.)
It has been hard to sleep the last few nights but maybe that is good. Then I will be able to sleep perhaps while on the plane. Also, during the plane ride, I will be able to concentrate on learning more of the "creation to Christ" story and the Bible studies. And of course I must work on learning more of the langage of the people group that we will be working with. It is really hard to concentrate with all the real world things surrounding us. Those things include work. I only have one more day of work to go but of course i have at least a week's worth of work to complete. But at some point i will leave it behind.
My friends, i must leave you now so that I can get some rest. It will be a busy next 48 hours. I leave with the following verse lingering in my
head. "If God be for us, who can be against us."
God Bless.
